What's up keloid? It's 2011.

Hi Everyone,

It's about time I provide an update. Today I went to visit doctor Dr. Jeffery R. Fischman, because I thought my keloid might be developing again.

The texture of my keloid seems more firmer and a little rough or lumpy inside. At times, I think I feel a little tingling, similar to the old sensation I felt when the keloid was growing. Truthfully, I do not know if it is me being over critical, having phantom sensation generated by my anxiety of it growing again, or it is indeed tingling and growing.

Nevertheless, I went to see Dr. Fischman. He stated, although it is a little lumpy, it does not look like it is growing, because it is not red and I am not certain of whether I feel tingling. Hearing his opinion assuaged my worries. Instead of an injection, I received a prescription for Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.5% Cre Foug that is not as potent to help the growth as the injection, but may hinder the growth for the circumstance of my keloid.

I am relieved that it is not growing or that a topical cream may help it instead of an evasive injection, because finally, my skin is not thin showing little red veins, and it is does not have an indentation from the treatment. However, the skin does not look completely healed like the normal skin around it, but I am happy. It looks much better.

Note: Someone commented that this seems to good to be true, and asked others to share their experiences. To anonymous commenter, I understand that it seems too good to be true, but this is not a treatment that quickly makes keloids vanish. It is an on going process of years for me, and my keloid has not vanished; I still have a scar, but I do not have the terrible burning feelings anymore. I hope other people share their experiences with any kind of treatment they have done.

Hi:

I am happy to see your blog. I have been dealing with keloids all of my life and since most of the treatments have seemed to aggravate them rather than make them disappear, I have almost stopped trying. However, I have a new keloid (several actually, one big and several small ones) on my chest. One is growing. I am sensing some discomfort and need someone trustworthy to help. Yet, I am afraid of all doctors regarding this. Is Dr. Jeffrey R. Fischman someone you'd recommend? You can reach me at bmnatty2@yahoo.com. I'd like to discuss this in greater detail if you are willing. I am at my wits end about this.

Thanks and Happy Healing.

Hi,

Similar to you, I am a kelloid veteran! I am currently undergoing treatment, and after only 1 injection (on my chest-kelloid) I have already seen results, and am going to continue the treatments.

In addition to my injections, my dermatologist has also aplied Co2 Laser treatment immediately upon the injection.

Has your doctor applied the same method (or suggested it)? I am curious because I have read a lot of material indicating that Co2 lasers do in fact assist in the reduction of the kelloid.

I would greately appreciate your feedback. Ask your doctor for his opinion regarding your kelloid and the possibility of using Co2 laser treatment in addition to the injections.

My best and good luck!

T.

hi, you're keloid story is so inspiring. gives hope for those who got negative results with the injection treatment. If you may know, what's the specific steriod used by your doctor? and how many times have you been injected with it? I am really very happy for your results. I also have one keloid in my shoulder for over 20years now from a vaccine, and this is the only keloid i have in my entire body... I'd love to hear your response. post some more pictures of your recent keloid. Thank you!

Hi,

I don't know what to say. But thank you so much for the information and the pictures. Likewise, I also have a keloid on the shoulder like you. After several combined treatments of injections and laser, my keloid lump is gone. However it is now undergoing discoloration. I have done a research on how to alleviate the uneven color. I came across a keloid remedy site stating that Mederma can help with the appearance of the scar. I wonder if you ever tried it? If so, does it work?

I'm glad to see a blog by someone else who is seeing Dr. Fischman. I first got my keloid in 2007 after a surgery was performed on my chest to remove an acorn sized lump. The original incision was about an inch and a half, and we began steroid injections to prevent keloiding as soon as there was a scar to deal with. That worked well for the first year, and the keloid totally flattened out, leaving just the map of where it was. The steroids I got then were super strong. The keloid would be flat by the second day after injection. However, a year later, I felt it start to itch one night, and then, BAM!, the thing came back with a vengeance. I tried to fight it off using silicone sheets for a few months, but that actually made it worse. I tried vitamin E, tea tree oil, green tea extract, and some crap I ordered from a Chinese medicine website called Hei Ba Gao. By the way, don't EVER order that stuff! It actually makes your keloid GROW instead of getting rid of it!!
This all happened over the course of 3 years. This year, the keloid has decided to start traveling across my chest. Oh, goodie! I haven't been able to wear a low cut top or anything that shows the tops of my breasts or my cleavage for years (unless I ever so artfully camouflage it. VERY frustrating. I've learned to camoflage it with temporary tatoos and strategically placed necklaces and pendants. I usually get away with it I've become so good at covering it, but the keloid itself is a MONSTER. It itches, it burns, it stings on some days, sometimes it just hurts, and little by little, it continues to grow. I'd about given up (don't want to do steroids again...they really thinned out my skin in that area. I constantly Google for cures, though, hoping that somebody finally comes up with something that WORKS.

Well, I read about Dr. Fischman and the fact that he's using a combination of a steroid and a cancer tumor inhibitor. I figured, what the hell? Steroid injections aren't that bad after all at this point. So, I made an appointment and saw him a few weeks ago, and I must say, I'm happy with what's going on with this crazy keloid now. First of all, once the local anesthetic that he gave before the treatment wore off, that keloid burned like it was on fire! It was intense at points, and I didn't think I'd be able to stand it any more, but that only lasted about a day. It stayed swollen for a few days and was HUGE, which worried me. But then, it slowly began to soften and SHRINK!!! I'm like, WHOA, the other steroid I took didn't do THAT!! Now, it's flatter and smaller, but still there. I'm actually pretty psyched because I can feel the difference. It's flatter and much softer. I can actually put makeup on top of it now, wear a cute little butterfly pendant over it, and you can't see a thing. Before, I would need a bigger butterfly or flower charm to cover it (I have a nice collection of them now! :)). The doc said to come back for a second treatment in 12 weeks. I'm looking forward to the 2nd injection, and think that will probably be all it takes. The therapy he does is not a quick fix like the other injections.... it takes its time to cause the desired effect. I'm sold. I'll take it! So far, so good! Hope that your treatment is working just as well. I guess the thing is to keep going til you find the right therapy. For all keloid sufferers, I know the pain, though. It's annoying, embarrassing and frustrating, and you get tired of having to explain to people "what that scar is". So far, my methods of hiding it have been great. I've been naked with boyfriends who didn't really get that there is something there under that tattoo and necklace. They actually think it's kind of hot that I'm always so well "decorated". Ha ha ha! But, at the end of the day, I'd really like for it to be totally GONE. Well, here's hoping! Good luck to us ALL!

Iv gone to Dr. Fischman, and he is a miracle worker. I have several keloids on my body in different areas. The first one he treated was a keloid from a surgery in my pubic line. After 2 sessions it was flat. I am very happy with the results.

The second keloid he began working on was in my navel. Its not completely gone as it is a big keloid. But he is working it in sections. The one section he was working on is COMPLETELY NORMAL! It looks like real skin and you can't tell there was ever a keloid there at all! The second section is VERRRRY flat and soft. At this point I couldn't afford to fly out to NY from Ohio so I had to stop treatment. (He will email your local dermatologist the prescription, so they can administer it. I however, want him to do it as he does an excellent job)

At one point in time there was a huge message board dedicated to keloids and Dr Fischman had treated (or sent the prescription) to almost everyone on that message board. That web site is not longer up, as the guy running it couldn't afford to pay the fee any more. So for doubters out there, this is very well documented. If you would like, I can post pics of my keloids and what they look like before and after his treatment.

Thanks for the information on this blog. I, too, am thinking about going to see Dr. Fischman for the keloid I have on my chest and this site has really given me hope that keloids can be cured.

If anyone else has experience with this and would be willing to share some before and after pics I would love to see them.

I go to doctor fischman for about 2 years and he has helped me so much. I had keloids from high school and was depressed because they are on my face, chest and back. Now I have better confidence and feel better because they are almost flat and no itching. If you wanna see pictures you can email me at kikibird_06@msn.com. I don't have after pics because they are list but you can see the shapes and just imagine how big they were.

Thank you soo much for your blog. I have been suffering from keloids for over 13 years and just recently found out what they were. I've been so ashamed and embarrassed my whole life about these. I just started recieving shots for them. And so far they have been working. I have them on my upper shoulders and back so I have never worn a tank top or swim suit in public. FYI I have also been using Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil..You can use it up to 3 times a day and I've noticed that the scars don't look so red. :D

Your blog inspired me too seek treatment after 4 years of not finding any doctor that was able to successfully treat my 3 keloids. It was nothing but a miracle from God that lead me to your page. I am now seeing Dr. Fischman and I am going for my 3rd visit in April. The treatment has been nothing easy, and the progress slow, but I am happy to see my keloids changing. They are getting smaller and flatter. I wanted to Thank you for having the courage to make this blog, you have truly made a difference in my life. I hope that you will soon post an update. May God Bless you on your journey! :)

Hi There,

Thank you for sharing your story and how you are dealing with your keloids. I have had these for over 20years now and these darn keloids are such a problem for me. They have formed an X right in the cleavage area of my chest. People often ask me if I had heart surgery or suffered knife wounds.
The keloids formed during my second pregnancy and after child-birth, I treated them with steroid injections which successfully flattened them. Unfortunately, during my third pregnancy the keloids came back even larger than before and I decided to leave them untreated. Looking back, I believe that my keloids are the result of taking prenatal vitamins which promoted over-growth of my skin. This is my theory because I did not take the vitamins during my first pregnancy and never had any such skin problems. I contemplated surgery at one point but got cold feet considering the location of my scars. I wish there was a way to remove them completely but they are not life threatening so what's the point. Although I still get embarrassed, I sometimes fight against my vain side, put my brave face on and wear low-cut clothing for my own comfort.

Good luck to you and thanks again for sharing your story.

Take care.

I am pissed of that there is no help for these scars. I'm thinking that should I start a career as a scientist to stop this whole scar thing.

Hi – It’s good to read such interesting stuff on the Internet as I have been able to discover here. I agree with much of what is written here and I’ll be coming back to this website again. Thanks again for posting such great reading material!!

Hi,
I am planning to see a plastic surgeon to remove my keloid on my navel area and combine steroid treatments. I've already had it removed before without any other treatment and it has returned.
I've been reading everywhere on the Internet that keloids should not be cut off as it would cause it to come back worse. I'm wondering if this injection works and I combine it with surgery to stop the growth, then removing it would mean I have a smaller scar to start with the injections right?
Does anyone have any experiences with surgery in combination with these injections?
Please..share your stories if you have experiences...
Thank you so much!!
I read every single post here!

I developed a keloid from a tracheostomy scar on the base of my neck. After barely surviving an apartment fire, losing my beloved kitty and everything I owned, having a keloid scar seemed overwhelming. The surgeon who performed the tracheostomy announced that my scar had over healed when he pulled off the bandage. Then he told me I would have to have plastic surgery in a years time.
The scar created a tight pulling feeling and I used about ever moisturizer including Shea butter to get rid the tightness. I started to use Tammy Fender's Bulgarian Lavender Body Oil that my co-workers at O, The Oprah Magazine had sent me as part of a get well care package. It got rid of the pulling feeling and the scent of lavender was very soothing. As the weeks past, I noticed my scar was looking better and better. The constellation of angry red raised dots on my neck were gone. In a few months my keloid scar was totally reversed. My doctors had never seen anything like it. They couldn't believe it was the same scar and many wrote down the name of the product to share with their patients.
My friends and family have been amazed as well by the total elimination of the keloid aspects of my scar. Now it is flat, contained to the area that was cut and is fading quite nicely. I am the last person on earth to recommend a natural treatment for anything but my experience with Tammy Fender's Lavender Body Oil on my keloid scar has opened the door a tiny crack to the possibility that there may be a few natural treatments that work. My best friend used the product on his wife's two year old c-section scar and within a weeks time the scar's texture and color had changed enormously for the better. I would encourage anyone struggling with living with a keloid scar to try it. I hope this recommendation will help others.

hello. would you kindly show us how your keloid currently looks like? thanks

Sure sorry Melissa it took so long. I am a bit of a techno-phobe so dont own a phone with a camera but know people who do and will try to make this happen. I also have 4 doctors who can back me up. I don't work for Tammy Fender and have never had any other good experiences with natural or alternative med or healing. But this really changed my life so I hope it can help others too.
